Sarah Abdey Reid


My photography pseudonym uses the surnames of my beloved grandparents and the people who empowered me to become a professional creative.


I have always had a strong connection to photos. Back when we shot on film I would buzz with excitement after dropping a film canister off to be processed. After collecting my precious package I would spend hours just looking at the prints on repeat. My passion has never waned. When working as a designer, shoot days were the days I most loved going to work.


I am a South African. If you haven't met a 'saffer' then I have to tell you that we are the nicest people in the world - or at least this is what I have come to believe after travelling to over 30 countries.

My journey to photography

I love taking photos so much my partner calls my camera my appendage.



I trained as a graphic designer and worked in the industry for over 20 years during which time I art directed an array of shoots. Working with photographers, videographers and stylists added to my knowledge and inherent love of capturing images. Photography was part of my education and over the years I have learnt about lighting, composition, colour and capturing emotion.

Photography has always been a hobby - I've always dreamed that one day it could be more than that. I couldn't be happier that my dream is now a reality.

The little boy who turned my world upside down

After having my son I realised how much more precious photos were to me. Those first few weeks they are so tiny and you are in awe that you created this tiny, perfect person and then before you know it every day is a whirlwind of adventure that just needs to be recorded.

As mums we are always the ones behind the camera phones. But our children should be able to look back at memories where our love for them is clearly etched on our faces.
